Awesome At-home Spa Treatment Ideas
Being a mom is a full-time job, because in addition to being a mother, women are often expected to fulfill the simultaneous role of “nurse”, “cook”, “chauffeur”, “counselor” and various other roles. Since motherhood can be such a time-consuming and stressful job, moms need to ensure that they take time out for themselves, especially during the fall and winter holiday seasons. If you are a busy mom who needs ideas for ways to relieve stress and take time out to dedicate to yourself, you should consider visiting a spa. At Skana, an Upstate New York Spa, where I work, not only can the various spa treatments provide you with some much-needed stress relief, but there are many other benefits that you can take advantage of as well. Some of the many benefits of spa treatments are:             -Younger looking skin             -Relief from pain             -Renewed, more restful sleep             -Strengthened immune system             -Increased mental acuity However, many mothers, especially those with younger children that are not in school yet, may have trouble finding time to visit a spa. Others may lack the necessary funds in order to pay for the various treatments offered at spas. In cases like these, it is possible to perform your own spa treatments at home. Of course you can’t give yourself a professional full-body massage or a concentrated reflexology session, but there are many treatments that you can enjoy at home without spending much money for supplies and equipment.
Essential oils can be used for aromatherapy to boost your mood, induce relaxation and certain winter specific oils can even help ward off colds and flu, which are common this time of year. Various supplies can be used to create invigorating facial masks, foot soaks and even relaxing baths, depending on the type of spa treatment you desire. Here is an inexpensive and non-time consuming DIY body scrub recipe:

Ingredients:
-        2 cups Sea Salt
-        ½ cup Olive oil (for best results, use organic extra virgin olive oil)
-        1 TBS lemon zest
-        1 tsp freshly squeezed lemon juice
Directions:
Mix ingredients together in a bowl adding oil gradually, as you do not want the mixture to be too dry or too soupy. You can also add more or less lemon zest depending on how fragrant you prefer the scrub to be. Once the perfect texture is established, transfer to a Mason jar or other storage container.
***Note: This recipe can easily be doubled, or tripled if you want to make more than one jar! It stores well and is a great gift for family or friends!
The scrub is commonly used while in the shower, but can be applied to clean skin at any time. Using small amounts at a time, apply the scrub using circular motions on your skin. Rinse with warm water. This will exfoliate the dead skin leaving you feeling fresh and clean.
Whether you want to treat yourself on your favorite holiday or you simply need to unwind after an especially busy week, you can perform any of the above spa treatments in your own home. Your at-home spa treatments are certain to make you feel pampered, contented and more relaxed, all without the assistance of a professional. There is no need to spend lots of money in order to enjoy spa treatment, but whenever you’re able to, you might want to treat yourself to the real thing, because you undoubtedly deserve it.
